What We Provide for Our Community
Free Adaptive Programming - GSTEF offers specifically tailored programming for groups in our community that are developmentally disabled. These groups include those with learning disabilities, autism and Down syndrome.
We have a strong partnership with the Special Olympics of Maryland and train the Special Olympic athletes to compete in all levels of tournament play.
Using tennis as an incentive, we capture the attention, interest and potential of the youth and adults who take part in the program. The level of the tennis and the life skills curriculum is tailored to the needs and cognitive abilities, motor and verbal skills of the students.
This programming includes certified tennis instructors who have undergone the proper training to work with developmentally disabled youth and adults. We utilize the United States Tennis Association’s 10-And-Under format, which uses specialized equipment, shorter court dimensions and modified scoring that is all tailored to each participant’s ability.
GSTEF also works with troubled youth within the juvenile justice system.
GSTEF offers community outreach programs such as the popular USTA adult league play and junior team tennis. These are offered at a low cost.
For enrichment, GSTEF has introduced a new junior girls’ focus group.
Financial assistance is available for those who qualify.
GSTEF hosts most of its programs at the Green Spring Racquet Club,
an indoor tennis facility in Lutherville, MD.
